Spring Clinic & Conditioning Sessions Begin

05/02/2016 19:00

For more information about the Latshmere and Collegiate sponsored spring clinic and conditioning sessions, write to CollegiateAquatics@gmail.com or speak with a Collegiate coach.

Our annual spring clinic and conditioning sessions will officially begin on Monday, May 2 and run every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday until Thursday, May 26. Similar to recent spring season sessions, there will be a mix of in-water and dryland sessions for swimmers to transition into the summer season.

In-water Stroke Clinic
Each Monday, Wednesday and Sunday will be devoted to in water stroke technique and basic conditioning. Water sessions will be divided into two groups - one group for younger age group swimmers and one for older/more experienced swimmers. All pool sessions will be held at the JCC.

Younger swimmers (generally 10 & under) will have in-water sessions from 7:00-8:00 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday and from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Sunday. These sessions will include a greater emphasis on stroke development and basic endurance.

Older/more experienced swimmers (generally 11-older) will have in-water sessions from 8:00-9:00 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday and from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Stroke refinement, strength development, and progressively more challenging sets will be introduced for the older age groups as the sessions progress.

Dryland Conditioning
Tuesday and Thursday sessions will include only dryland exercises that address basic strength, core stability, and introductory exercises for explosive speed off starts and turns. These sessions are most appropriate for swimmers that have the maturity to follow instructions in a large group setting. All dryland sessions will be held at the Wedgewood Hills Swim Club.

General expectations for all swimmers that elect to participate in the clinic & conditioning sessions:
o The clinic is NOT a learn to swim program.
o Swimmers should already have competitive swimming background (basic knowledge of all four strokes).
o The sessions are most suitable for ages 8 & over however some exceptions might be warranted provided the swimmer is capable of performing longer swim/kick sets (i.e winter swimmer).
o Swimmers will be expected to stay in the water for the entire practice.
o Swimmers should be able to swim continuously for ten minutes without stopping.
o Swimmers should be able to kick continuously for ten minutes without stopping.
o Swimmers should be prepared for incremental increases in workout intensity (the coaches will not negotiate the type of sets presented during the work-out).
o Swimmers should maintain focus on stroke technique, body position, and kicking throughout each practice.
o Swimmers should have a good attitude, be respectful of their peers and coaches, and be willing to learn and have fun.

For the stroke clinic and training sessions, the coaches reserve the right to limit registration to provide for a better instruction/training environment. Please be sure to respond in a timely manner. We have had a great deal of interest in these sessions and may have to limit attendance - REGISTER EARLY.

A registration form is HERE. Please return via US Mail or drop off during a registration open house.
